The most common source of pain starts at the top of the shoulder radiating laterally down the arm. The radicular part of the pain does not descend past the elbow. Simple exam can diagnose shoulder joint disease (gleno-humeral effusion) from muscular shoulder pain related to rotator cuff disease or sub-acromial bursitis. The muscular pain and the sub-acromial bursitis are very common and account for over 95% of shoulder pain. No x-ray is necessary. A simple exam is enough. Best of all, it is easily cured.
